The Bakehouse is a rare gem. We embrace the nostalgia of old-fashioned bakeries and the taste of home-made goodness. Everything is made on premises, on demand, and from scratch with real ingredients.

Our Blueberry-Lemon Scones are a perfect example – they contain butter, flour, baking powder,  sugar, buttermilk, fresh blueberries, lemon zest, and a sprinkling of cinnamon-sugar- that’s it. Simple and delicious!

We take pride in providing our community with butter-rich pastries that melt in your mouth, hand-cut cookies that are a visual delight, chicken pot pie that will comfort you when you need it, and so much more. 

​

The Riviera Pastry Shop, originally owned by two Polish brothers, opened in Ardsley in the 1950s. Over the years it changed hands a few times.

​

In 1994, Kaye Hansen and her husband, Peter Simon, purchased the business. Kaye had a life-long passion for scratch baking. She honed her craft at home, in restaurants,  and at her first bakery,  the Runcible Spoon in Nyack, New York. Together Kaye and Peter transformed the Riviera Bakehouse from a small local bakery into a destination

In 2012,  Kaye's daughter, Liv, took over, rebranding as the BAKEHOUSE. Liv had worked along side her mother since the beginning. With Kaye's recipes and Liv's eye for decorating,  a wonderful collaboration was formed. Liv and Kaye authored 4 books together, including the "Whimsical Bakehouse - Fun to Make Cakes that Taste as Good as They Look".

After  70+ years in business, the beloved Bakehouse of Ardsley closed its doors on January 27, 2024. Despite how difficult it was to make this decision, we feel it was the right decision for us and our work-life balance. We know this local institution will be sorely missed, but all is not lost!!

​

The Bakehouse at the Tarrytown Train Station (opened in 2020), the Riviera's sister store, will remain in operation.  Our bakery-café is smaller than the original location so we will no longer offer Custom Cakes or a few other items, but we will continue to make many of the delicious baked goods you have grown accustomed to!

​

The Bakehouse of Tarrytown offers baked breakfast items, a full coffee bar, a breakfast & lunch menu, quiche, grab and go dinners, 6"cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. So please stop by!
